in May 2025, PHMSA - through the National Pipeline Mapping System - published a revised set of High- and Other-Population Area GIS polygons. These polygons are critical inputs into PHMSA's Pipeline Integrity program for Liquids Pipeline Operators, and changes such as this require operators of these pipelines to determine if the changes impact operations and require additional safety measures be implemented.
