Pipeline Damage Prevention Training For Excavators

September 19, 2016

Texas has the largest underground pipeline infrastructure in the nation with approximately 430, 000 miles of underground pipeline. Over 8700 pipeline damage incidents were caused by excavations in Texas in 2015.

Anyone excavating needs to know where underground utility lines are located prior to digging. By Texas law, a call to 811 is required.

The Railroad Commission of Texas enforces compliance and educates the public in Texas' excavation laws to ensure the safety of all Texans. The Railroad Commission of Texas has partnered with Texas 811 and PEC Safety to provide training for excavators. The four hour course will provide 1) a basic understanding of pipeline safety principles, and 2) an in-depth look at Texas' underground pipeline damage prevention laws as outlined in Chapter 18 of the TAC.
